“Keep me company,” I beg you to stay.

Your eyes tell me off for being too pushy, for wanting too much, for invading your space. It takes some silence before I give up, sigh a little, not to dramatically, and back off.

“Never mind,” a silent mutter, as though it doesn’t matter.

It does. More than I like to admit. Because if I did, you’d just walk away. As long as I stay still, keep my fingers in line and don’t smile with my heart you’ll stick around. A while longer. Enough to have me thinking you actually like me. As if. You’re already preparing to leave, not having got around to it just yet. I’m being pathetically clingy, I know. I just want you to stay. Your hand catches me in the middle of turning away, and you play with me easily because the stars in your eyes give hope to the desperate.

“Don’t be like that,” you reply, kissing me before I have the chance to think about it.

Rending me speechless is unfair, I used to be witty. You turned me dumb. And here I am. Falling in love when you’ve already got your coat on. Halfway out the door. Goodnight. Goodbye.

“I’ll see you around,” nonchalant as always.

Just because you’re pretty. Just because you can. It’s unfair, so unfair. More so when I nod and agree. You took my words away, and I might just never forgive you.
